As we reported, back in March, Kim Foxx’s office dropped all charges against the actor who was accused of lying about being the victim of a hate crime. Ever since then, Chicago police department have been eyeing Foxx who they believe made the wrong choice.

The Cook County State’s Attorney office released the text Tuesday of Foxx telling her top deputy that Smollett was a “washed up celeb who lied to cops” and the number of felony counts he faced was excessive.

“Sooo……I’m recused, but when people accuse us of overcharging cases…16 counts on a class 4 (felony) becomes exhibit A,” Foxx said in a text message to Joseph Magats, her top assistant, on March 8.

Foxx issued a statement shortly after the release stating,

“After the indictment became public, I reached out to Joe to discuss reviewing office policies to assure consistencies in our charging and our use of appropriate charging authority.”

She continues,

“I was elected to bring criminal justice reform and that includes intentionality, consistency, and discretion. I will continue to uphold these guiding principals.”
