His reasoning, very simple he would like to take a lot of the responsibility of his life and return to being a normal businessman with a simpler life.
“I had more fun on the other side than on this side because now, tomorrow, I would have to affect someone’s livelihood and life,” he said. “I thought about that and said that’s not fun for me. That’s not who I am.
“I want to go back to having fun. I want to go back being who I was before taking on this job.”
Magic has said that his decision is in no way shape or form related to head coach Luke Walton’s job status.
Before his decision, Magic says that he was not able to sit and tell Jeanie Buss, the team’s controlling owner and president, or general manager Rob Pelinka of his decision.
“I knew I couldn’t be face-to-face and tell her,” he said of Buss, saying he loves her like a sister. “I couldn’t stand to tell her.”
The Lakers were 37-44 entering Tuesday. They were 35-47 last season and have not made the playoffs since 2013.
