As we reported, Bowen’s ex-fiancé Derion Vence admitted to killing Maleah and dumping her body somewhere in Arkansas after she had gone missing for a month. He claims it was an accident but authorities do not believe him since he has changed his story multiple times throughout the investigation. Vence, who also spoke with KTRK said “nothing bad happened” to Maleah… I’m not a killer, bro.” The mother said she was told the unfortunate news over the phone Monday and is having a very hard time processing it all.

“I think at that moment that’s when reality hit, that it was her, in that bag, sitting along that street,” a distraught Bowens told ABC13. “It’s not fair. It’s not fair at all. I just, I just don’t understand this. It’s not fair, because she didn’t deserve that,” Bowens added.

Vence claims that he,

“loved Maleah so much. I did for her more than her own parents. I never had a biological daughter. I would never do anything to hurt her. That’s not me. Ask anyone who knows me, and they’ll tell you I’m not that type of dude and I was good with the kids,” Vence, 27, told KTRK.

Vence remains jailed on a charge of tampering with evidence, specifically a human corpse. Reports stat that he’s being held on a $45,000 bond.
