False alarm! Just when we thought another school was dealing with an active shooter situation, it turned out to be a big misunderstanding.
Reports of an active shooter came in around 6:30 a.m. at the Topsail High School in North Carolina. Capt. James Rowell with the Pender County Sheriff’s Office shared with WECT-TV that they were still investigating the situation but confirmed there were no known injuries.
Pender County schools even said via Twitter that all campuses on the eastern side of the county have been lockdown because of the reports. School buses for Topsail Elementary, Topsail Middle, and Topsail High were being directed to Lowe’s Foods across from the elementary school, where parents could pick up their children.
County officials have just shared that there were no gunshots fired and it just turned out to be a malfunctioning water heater that sounds like gunshots. No further details were shared.
As of right now, it unclear if classes will resume. But thankfully, this was just a false alarm.
This news comes after the recent and very tragic bar shooting at a California bar. 12 people were killed when a gunman entered and opened fire. The shooter later killed himself.
