A Delaware man was arrested after he was caught standing outside of a Westfield elementary school with a gun and 130 rounds of ammo.
According to CNN, the male suspect was apprehended by police Thursday afternoon after he was spotted in the front seat of his SUV at Tamaques Elementary School’s parking lot. He carried a loaded .45-caliber handgun and had 130 rounds of ammo. The school was on lockdown due to after-school activities occurring at the time.
Police identified the man as 46-year-old Thomas J.Wilkie of Bear, Delaware. Days before his arrest, Wilkie posted on Facebook Monday about his homelessness:
“To all my FB friends out there I’m currently living in my car and have no where to go if I could surf someone’s couch for a safe place to stay I would be eternally grateful. I guess I’ll see who my friends really are and who chose to step up and help me I’m no trouble and no I’m not on drugs or any of that s**t.
New Castle Police released tip to authorities about Wilkie heading up to the elementary school with a weapon.
He was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, fourth-degree possession of hollow-point bullets and fourth-degree trespassing on school grounds. Wilkie is currently held at the Union County jail and has a scheduled court hearing on Wednesday.
