Man Dies After NYC Elevator Falls On Him
Horrifying video obtained by the New York Post captures the moment a man was crushed to death by a Manhattan apartment building elevator.
Samuel Charles Waisbren, 30, was in an elevator with several other people inside the Manhattan Promenade around 8:45 a.m. As he tried to get off, the man fell through a gap, and became lodged between the elevator door and the elevator shaft which then crushed him.
In a statement, the Department of Buildings said they are investigating the death,
“The Department of Buildings is investigating this incident aggressively and will take all appropriate enforcement actions. Elevators are the safest form of travel in New York, due to the city’s stringent inspection and safety requirements. We’re determined to find out what went wrong at this building and seek ways to prevent incidents like this in the future.”
Charles Waisbren, the victim’s father, revealed that his son had concerns over the elevators. “It was a point of constant consternation,” he said.
Waisbren was pronounced dead at the scene, others who were trapped were rescued.
