Man Found Dead After Kidnappers Demanded Pot As Ransom
The body of the grandson of a New Jersey official has been found hours after kidnappers sent a photo showing him blindfolded in order to get 10-15 pounds of weed as a ransom from his family.
PIX 11 reports that Camden County states that the body of 20-year-old Curtis Jenkins III was discovered in a Camden, New Jersey, home on Tuesday. His grandfather is Camden City Council President Curtis Jenkins Sr.
Jenkins was last seen Sunday night and police have described his murder as a “calculated plot to entrap and abduct the victim.” Police say he died by asphyxiation. He was found with a plastic bag over his head and had been shot.
Gov. Phil Murphy released a statement regarding the tragic death,
“I am appalled by the news of the senseless murder of Curtis Jenkins III, a young man who was continuing his family’s tradition of bringing positive change to Camden. Tammy and I send our deepest condolences to the entire Jenkins family – including his grandfather, City Council President Curtis Jenkins, Sr – and everyone who knew and loved him. I encourage anyone with information into this horrible crime to contact the Camden County Police Department. And, I recommit our administration’s efforts to helping move the entire City of Camden forward.”
32-year-old Brandon Beverly was arrested and charged with kidnapping and aggravated assault after Jenkin’s father reported the ransom to police. His charge has since been upgraded to first-degree murder. Authorities are still on the hunt for a second kidnapper.
