Man Has Penis Amputated After Suffering From Two-Day Erection
A man from India had to have his penis partially amputated after he developed gangrene from a two-day erection.
The Mirror reports that the unidentified 52-year-old patient came to the hospital complaining of a painful erection that would not go away.
The doctors reportedly drained the blood from his penis, but, they failed to remove the catheter and the man developed black gangrene due to his bandages being too tight. Unfortunately, doctors had to amputate part of the organ after he suffered tissue damage that has been caused by a loss of blood circulation.
The medical term for a long and painful erection is priapism. It can be caused due to a sickle cell issue or the use of prescription drugs such as Viagra. Patients that report having an erection that lasts longer than 48 hours should seek help as it is considered a medical emergency.
Fortunately, after a few weeks of healing the man was able to go about his business as normal.
