Man Throws 13-Year-Old Girl From Car During Police Chase
A Georgia man threw a 13-year-old girl that he had met online from a car while he was being chased by the police.
WSBTV reports that Derek Jerome Nelson, 30, was arrested in Richland County, South Carolina after the young girl said her alleged boyfriend threw her out of the window of a moving car.
Apparently, the incident ensued after police spotted a car in a parking lot. Once the officer approached the vehicle, he said that a man climbed into the driver’s seat of the car and drove off. The officer followed the car and it led to a chase.
“At least twice during the chase, the suspect vehicle braked hard and drove off the road,” the Richland sheriff’s office said.
The officer recalls seeing something fly out of the car. Apparently, when Nelson got out of the car he was only wearing a shirt and admitted that he was “hooking up” with a girl he met on the internet and got scared when the officer closed in on him.
Police later found a 13-year-old girl with injuries to her hands, arms, and legs. She was then taken to hospital.
“When approached by one of the deputies, she said she was ‘thrown from the car’ by her boyfriend,” officials said.
Nelson claimed that he thought the girl was 18. He is being held without bond at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in South Carolina. He is being charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor, assault/battery, solicitation to commit a felony, dissemination of obscene material to a minor, and two counts of first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.
The young girl referred to Nelson as her ‘boyfriend.’
