Another person is thanking their Apple Watch for saving his life. 28-year-old James Prudenciano was on a date with Paige Paruso at the Harthshorne Woods Park in New Jersy last week when they got lost in the woods. They began walking as it got darker and both fell onto a ravine. They decided to slide down in hopes of landing on solid ground. However, they soon realized that at the bottom it was just rocks and the Navesink River.

“We got to the bottom and that’s when it was life or death,” Prudenciano explained to News 12. “I looked down and I noticed it was a straight drop to rocks and water. I was screaming that I’m going to die because I really felt I was going to die,” he said. “There was no way out of this for me. I literally said my last goodbyes.”

Following the fall of nearly 100 feet, and with the couple thinking the worst, Prudenciano’s Apple Watch detected a “hard fall,” alerting authorities to the pair’s whereabouts. First responders managed to track the couple’s location and rescue them.

Prudenciano suffered three fractures in his back and according to the Daily Mail, thorns are still lodged in his foot. His date also suffered some minor injuries.
