Marijuana Testing For Job Applicants May Soon Be Banned In NYC!

Those who smoke pot know how difficult it is to get a job because of drug testing. But, according to new reports, smokers may no longer have to worry about that anymore!

Although the state has not officially legalized the drug just yet, the New York City Council has decided to pass a bill to ban most employers from requiring job applicants to take drug tests for marijuana. However, exceptions would be made for safety and security sensitive jobs, like the NYPD, and those tied to a federal or state contract or grant. The law would go into effect one year after its approval.

“This is not a permission to come to work high, this is not permission to come to work impaired, but we are not speaking about that,” said Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, the bill’s sponsor. “We are speaking about people who are prevented from going to work in the first place.”

New York City has been loosening marijuana rules for the last couple of years. Back in September, the New York Police Department started to issue criminal summonses to most people caught smoking marijuana in public instead of arresting them. People with summonses will just have to go to court and pay a $100 fine.
