Michael Cohen Pleads Guilty To Lying To Congress About Russia Investigation

On Thursday, President Donald Trump’s ex-attorney Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to making false statements to Congress about the Russia investigation.

According to the information that was read out in court earlier this morning, Cohen had made a false statement regarding a proposed Trump Tower deal in Moscow that he was working on in 2015 and 2016. He had a discussion about the project at a later date. He had previously said that the deal was stopped in January 2016, CNN reports.

Cohen had already pleaded guilty to tax fraud and campaign finance charges as part of an investigation run by the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York back in August. But he had not previously been charged as part of the Russia probe.

After leaving the courthouse, Cohen didn’t give any statements but Trump sure did while speaking to reporters on the White House South Lawn. Trump called his former attorney a “weak person.”

This news is the latest twist in the US Department of Justice special counsel’s investigation into whether Mr. Trump and his inner circle colluded with a Russian attempt to influence the 2016 presidential election.
