A New Jersey mother could be facing life for killing her toddler due to her extramarital affair.
Heather Reynolds is now sitting behind bars as she has been charged with murdering her 17-month-old toddler Axel in 2018.
Reynolds was charged with murder, endangering the welfare of a child, possession of methamphetamine and hindering apprehension.
Peter Gallagher who is the Assistant Prosecutor claims that Reynolds had been having an affair while her husband was out of state on work.
“A review of the text messages between the defendant and her boyfriend from the previous night reveals that the defendant was becoming frustrated by the boyfriend’s apparent lack of interest,” Gallagher said.
“And witnesses also told detectives that the defendant had expressed the sentiment that her toddler son … was an obstacle to her relationship with her boyfriend.”
Gallagher says that on May 10th, Reynolds asked a neighbor to called 911 as she held her son’s lifeless body.
Reynolds told first responders that Axel smelled like rubbing alcohol, and she posited he may have accidentally drunk something poisonous. However, something was not adding up when It came to Gallagher as he says the boy died when
“a wipe containing [rubbing] alcohol and detergent was placed over the mouth and nose.”
Reynolds has pleaded not guilty to all charges but will remain behind bars until trial. If found guilty, she faces a life sentence.
