More Than 19,000 Without Power Across New Orleans Due To Massive Rainfall

Residents have been swamped with torrential rain as severe thunderstorms moved through New Orleans early Wednesday morning (July 10), causing street flooding and even prompting tornado warnings.

It’s been said that the latest downpour may have just been a preview of more serious flooding situation from Tropical Storm or Hurricane Barry, which could affect the area well into the weekend. NOLA.com is reporting that there were about 19,535 businesses and homes without power in the seven-parish area as of 9:45 a.m.

Videos and pictures shared to social media shows homes covered in 6-10 inches of rain. One man can be see swimming to get across a street while other photos show tires of cars almost completely covered.

While the rains have eased up for now in New Orleans, residents are bracing for the next big storm.
