Morehouse Commencement Speaker To Pay Off Class Of 2019’s Student Loans

Something amazing happened at the Morehouse College’s graduation ceremony on Sunday. Billionaire tech Robert F. Smith stood in front of the nearly 400 graduating seniors, surprised some by announcing that his family was providing a grant to eliminate the student debt of the entire Class of 2019!!

Robert F. Smith, who received an honorary doctorate from the college had already announced a $1.5 million gift to the school, but he wanted to do more. He said to the graduating students,

“This is my class and I know my class will pay this forward,” adding, My family is going to create a grant to eliminate your student loans!” The crowd was filled with joy, some even cried after hearing the great news. According to WSBTV, the gift has been estimated at $40 million.

For those who don’t know Smith is the Founder and CEO of Vista Equity Partners, a private equity firm that invests in software, data, and technology-driven companies.
