Police arrested an Indiana couple after a child’s tongue was split, his scrotum swollen and his body was covered in bruises!
Scott Edwards and Holly Cota were taken to the Virgo County Jail on suspicion of child abuse. It all started when Cota went to the Union Hospital on January 14th saying her 14-month-old toddler bit his tongue after repeatedly falling in his crib. The hospital wasn’t buying it because they called police when they noticed the laceration was not consistent with biting.
According to WTHI, they also thought Cota was lying about the child injuring his scrotum while straddling a toy box. The toddler’s body was covered in multiple bruises, per the court document. He was taken to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis for pediatric care.
The affidavit reads:
“She said that the cut appeared clean and was not torn which indicated that some type of tool, possibly scissors, were used,” according to Fox News.” She also said that a piece at the tip of the tongue was missing.”
The mother told police the injuries came after her boyfriend, Edwards, was watching the child. A longtime family friend Chelsie Loose, told WTHI she was heartbroken, appalled and disgusted by what happened. Edwards faces charges for aggravated battery and neglect of a dependent and Cota with obstruction of justice charges.
