Mother Charged With Murder After Dropping Baby During A Fight
A South Georgia mother is being charged with murder after dropping her 3-month-old baby during a fight with another woman.
According to WALB-TV, Karen Lashun Harrison, 26, is facing a felony murder charge, first-degree child cruelty, second-degree child cruelty, simple battery and is accused of making false statements.
Initially, Harrison told police that her son got a head injury after falling from the arms of family friend.
However, surveillance footage from the incident showed that Harrison and Carneata Clark had engaged in a fight at a Thomas Beauty Supply.
“We investigated the incident and determined the baby did not receive his injuries how it was reported. It was reported to us that the baby had fallen from the caregivers arms and received the injuries,” Lt. Freddie Williams said to WTXL. “Then we got information that there was a fight.”
During the scuffle, Harrison can be seen holding her son in one arm as she makes her way towards Clark in the store’s parking lot. Clark then swings a bag at Harrison’s face causing her to drop her baby on the pavement.
The women continue to fight as the baby is left on the ground.
The following day, the child was taken to Colquitt Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy is currently being carried out.
