Muhammad Ali’s Ex-Wife To Trump: “It’s A Little Too Late” For A Pardon
Just like everyone else, Muhammad Ali’s ex-wife thinks there’s no reason for Donald Trump to pardon the late boxer, Muhammad Ali.
Trump has recently commuted great-grandmother Alice Marie Johnson’s life sentence after he met with Kim Kardashian who vouched for her release. Now, it looks like Trump is going on a pardoning spree. On Friday, he announced that he was actually considering pardoning Ali, who was convicted in 1967 for refusing to serve in the military due to religious reasons.
However, to be pardoned, you need to have been convicted of a crime. Although Ali was convicted, the Supreme Court overturned it. That means the conviction no longer exists…So, as Khalilah Ali pointed out, “There’s no necessary need for a pardon.”
“I think [Trump] probably was a fan of Ali and he thought he would say something positive about him. That might be it … but it’s a little too late.”TMZ quotes.
Khalilah went on to say if Trump really respects what Ali stood for he would consider pardoning the NFL players who knelt during the national anthem.
“If you’re willing to say its okay for Muhammad Ali to be pardoned for his freedom and standing up his rights and standing up for not going to the army … then you’re telling me that you’re ready to pardon everybody that has done that in the same manner as Muhammad Ali has.”
