Nearly 50 Students Involved In High School Sexting Scandal
Nearly 50 students at the Union County High in Blairsville have been caught in a sexting scandal and are now facing disciplinary action.
According to Fox News, school officials discovered that 46 out of 800 students at Union County High in Blairsville were sharing naked photos of their classmates — that’s nearly 6 percent of the school’s population. It was said the students ranged in the age from 14 to 18.
The scandal was discovered after a parent tipped off the school principal to the disturbing exchange a few weeks ago, according to the New York Post. As of right now, the students have been suspended or transferred to an alternative school based on the severity of their actions, school officials said. However, some could be prosecuted for felony child pornography for sending those photos.
Parents from both the high school and middle school are expected to attend a meeting Thursday night. It will focus on the dangers, warning signs, and the legal ramifications.
School police continue to investigate, but administrators have said they are not necessarily pushing for prosecution.
