Netflix Reportedly Outspent HBO For The Yoncé ‘Homecoming’ Special
While she ended up going with the other guys to debut her Coachella bts feature, Homecoming, Vulture reports that Beyoncé originally had talks with HBO before its competitor Netflix swooped in with a larger check.
In addition to airing her 2013 doc Life Is But a Dream and On the Run concert special with HBO, Netflix reportedly came into the picture last minute with a ridiculously larger sum of money, and the first network couldn’t justify matching.
Additionally, this isn’t the first time the on-demand streaming platform’s outspent a competitor, as we’ve seen them snatch up comedy specials by Chris Rock ($40M deal) and Dave Chappelle ($60M deal), plus the rights to Springsteen on Broadway for more than $20 million.
