Netflix Responds To Mo’Nique’s Discrimination Lawsuit

As we previously reported, Mo’Nique has decided to file a discrimination lawsuit against Netflix for how it negotiated a comedy special with her.

Mo’Nique previously claimed that the streaming giant offered Amy Schumer $11 million for an hour-long stand-up special (she eventually got $13 mil), but only offered Mo’Nique $500,000 for her stand-up special! She eventually turned down their offer and even called for a boycott. In the lawsuit, Mo’Nique calls out almost everyone from the top executives of the Netflix management team, the big gender wage gap and the lack of diversity in Hollywood.

Netflix is now responding to the suit, saying the company did offer the Oscar winner her worth during 2017 negotiations for a stand-up special.

“We care deeply about inclusion, equity, and diversity and take any accusations of discrimination very seriously,” said a Netflix spokesperson in a statement. “We believe our opening offer to Mo’Nique was fair — which is why we will be fighting this lawsuit.”

According to the lawsuit obtained by NBC, which seeks unspecified damages and for an injunction forcing the company to change its discriminatory policies.
