Nick Cannon got some things off his chest about Travis Scott.
Nick Cannon was a guest on BET’s “Raq Rants” and had some words for the “SICKO MODE” rapper. As per his controversial decision to perform at the upcoming Super Bowl, many were confused as to why Scott agreed to the performance given the Colin Kaepernick protests. On the upcoming episode, Cannon confirmed himself as one as Scott’s criticizers.
“I’m team [Colin] Kaepernick all day,” Cannon shared with Raquel Harper of BET’s “Raq Rants.” “To me, I call it cultural equity. So we’re not mad at Big Boi for being on the Super Bowl. He’s for the people. But someone like Travis Scott, he’s got to walk gingerly.”
The “Wild ‘N Out” host explained how he thinks Atlanta native rapper Big Boi earned his stripes in the black community but Scott has yet to do so.
“It’s more about truly having integrity to who you are in your music, your art form, the people you choose to interact with, the people you choose to procreate with.”
Cannon also isn’t a fan of Scott and Kylie Jenner creating 11-month-old Stormi Webster, saying it “wasn’t for the culture”. The 38-year-old proclaims that he still hasn’t seen Scott prove that he’s “for the people.”
His opinions come just days after Gladys Knight was announced as the national anthem singer. Due to major backlash, Knight was forced to clear up her decision days after as well. Super Bowl LIII will air live on February 3rd, 2018.
