Nordstrom Sells Line Of Shoes Specially Made For Kids With Disabilities

Fashion is continuing to evolve as shoes have finally been made aimed at assisting kids who have disabilities.

BILLY Footwear which is being sold at Norstrom has created a shoe that has a “universal design” for people of all abilities. This new sneaker is a step in a positive direction which shows both a functional and inclusive way to make shoes accessible for kids with disabilities.

With a mixture of high and low top sneakers, BILLY brand creator Billy Price has created a groundbreaking shoe based off of his childhood experience.

When he was younger, Price broke his neck after falling three stories down resulting in him becoming paralyzed. The results of his trauma, a design that helps those who have a disability.

“Smashing fashion with function, BILLY Footwear incorporates zippers that go along the side of the shoes and around the toe, allowing the upper of each shoe to open and fold over completely,” reads the BILLY about page.

“Thus, the wearer can place his or her foot onto the shoe foot bed unobstructed. Then with a tug on the zipper-pull, the shoe closes and secures over top the user’s foot. It’s simple. It’s easy.”

Nicole Goodwin Hulbert, the mother of a daughter with disabilities took to Facebook to share pictures of her daughter trying on a few pairs.
