A Viking Sky cruise ship is currently being evacuated after it experienced engine problems off the coast of Norway.
The BBC reports that MV Viking Sky sent asignal after it experienced engine issues amid rogue waves and high winds.Authorities received a call about the ship experiencing engine problems around 2:00 p.m Saturday afternoon. Another ship called the Hagland Captain lost engine power alongside the cruise vessel.
Dozens of passengers who were waiting to be evacuated recorded their experience on the ship and uploaded pictures and videos via social media. Police also reported that the 1,300 passengers will be evacuated via helicopter and boats after the ship managed to anchor in Hustadvika Bay.

Local broadcast station NRK said that the evacuation process would be a long and dangerous one due to each passenger being evacuated one by one via helicopter. At least 100 passengers were taken to shore by 6:00 p.m. local time. Reports also stated that sea and rescue officials would not be able to use lifeboats due to the dangerous weather conditions.

The ship set sail from Bergen on March 14 and was scheduled to dock in Narvik, Alta, Tromso, Bodo and Stavanger. It’s last destination was the British port of Tilbury.
