NYPD Investigate Rape Claims Made Against Kristaps Porziņģis
Former New York Knicks player Kristaps Porzingis has been accused of raping and attacking a woman.
The New York Post reports that a woman went to the police on Thursday, over a year after the alleged assault. She claims she visited Porzingis’ Manhattan penthouse around 2 a.m. on Feb. 7, 2018. She added that they lived in the same complex.
She claims the basketball star held her down on a bed, hit her numerous times in the face, and raped her.
The woman allegedly said that she only waited for a year to come forward because Porzingis was going to give her $68,000 in hush-money. She said she was going to use it to pay for her brother
A lawyer for Porzingis, who is currently playing for the Dallas Mavericks, said the player denies the allegation “unequivocally.” He adds that they had already informed federal law enforcement in December to the accuser’s “extortionate demands.”
“We also alerted the National Basketball Association months ago and they are aware of the ongoing investigation of the accuser by federal law enforcement,” said his lawyer, Roland G. Riopelle. “We cannot comment further on an ongoing federal investigation.”
