NYPD Judge Rules That Officer Pantaleo Should Be Fired For Eric Garner Death
NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Trials Rosemarie Maldonado has officially ruled that Officer Daniel Pantaleo should be fired for the death of Eric Garner.
Maldonado believes that his use of a chokehold on Garner was misconduct, and the sole cause of his death. The new revelations come in a 46-page report that was published by the New York Times.
In her report, Maldonado writes that “this tribunal found it to be reckless — a gross deviation from the standard of conduct established for a New York City police officer.”
The judge said that Pantaleo was “untruthful” during the investigation and called other cops who testified on his behalf “unhelpful or unreliable.”
The news comes just two weeks after the same judge recommended that Pantaleo be terminated, after Attorney General William Barr refused to bring federal charges against him.
Despite her recommendation, the final decision will come from Police Commissioner James O’Neill.
