NYPD Union Lawyers Claim Eric Garner Would’ve Died Anyway Due To Obesity

The legal team representing Officer Daniel Pantaleo in the Eric Garner case claim that he would have died to due his weight!

The NYPD union lawyers are taking a jab at Eric Garner’s weight claiming that poor health would have lead to his death well before Officer Daniel Pantaleo put him in a chokehold.

Pantaleo’s attorney, Stuart London stood in front of the court asking that Pantaleo be cleared of Garner’s death because he says, Garner “died from being morbidly obese.”

“He was a ticking time bomb that resisted arrest,” London said during an administrative hearing. “If he was put in a bear hug, it would have been the same outcome.”

This statement was made during a courtroom proceeding that lasted seven days at the NYPD headquarters. These hearings are all a part of determining if Pantaleo will lose his job for his hand in Garner’s death.

Medical examiners say that when Pantaleo put Garner in a “chokehold” he compressed his throat and chest, which resulted in him suffering a fatal asthma attack.

Since his death, which was all because Garner was allegedly selling untaxed loose cigarettes.

The NYPD has to prove that Pantaleo used a chokehold forbidden by the department in a way that counts as criminal conduct in order for him to be fired.
