An off-duty NYPD sergeant identified as Justin Ellis, shot a personal trainer after coming home and finding him alone with his wife.

The Independent reports that the 34-year-old Queens Officer chased the man from his Long Island home and threatened him with his weapon before firing a shot.

The victim was armed with a bat and was hit in the chest, but has recovered and is in good condition. He is expected to speak to the police later this week.

It is not clear why the trainer was at the cop’s house because his wife was not a client of his. The victim also claimed that there was no romantic relationship between the two.

As of now, the sergeant has been placed on modified duty and has been forced to turn over his service weapon and his badge.

The victims attorney says that he is pushing for the officer to be charged with attempted murder.
