Oprah Winfrey keeps on giving! On Monday, it was revealed that Winfrey donated $2 million to Puerto Rico for its relief efforts following the destruction from Hurricane Maria in September 2017.

The big news was shared by the Hispanic Federation and The Flamboyan Arts Fund, an organization funded by “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda. It was said that one half of the donation will go towards the Hispanic Federation’s UNIDOS Disaster Relief & Recovery Program to continue developing long-term needs for the island, while the other half of the donation will go to the Flamboyan Arts Fund, focused on continuing the island’s rich heritage of arts, culture and creative development.

In a statement, Winfrey mentioned attending Miranda’s production of “Hamilton” on the island earlier this year as inspiration for her big donation.

“I was so moved by Lin-Manuel Miranda’s commitment to bring ‘Hamilton’ to Puerto Rico and support the community that served him growing up that I wanted to join in the revitalization efforts of an island so rich in culture, beauty, and heritage,” Winfrey said. She added, “The needs of Puerto Rico and our fellow American citizens following the tragic hurricanes are still very real, and the work that has already been done by the Hispanic Federation, Flamboyan Arts Fund and other organizations on and off the island is long from over.”

As we previously reported, the island faced major damages from Hurricane Maria’s big landfall. Not only did thousands of people died, but many were left displaced and some parts had no power for months. Many celebs like Fat Joe and J Lo have also contributed in a major way. However, politicians on the island have clashed with President Donald Trump in recent weeks over the need for more financial aid to the island.
