A Brooklyn paraprofessional was arrested after he allegedly sexually abused a student in a school basement.
NBC New York reports Kevin Lemon, 28, was arrested on charges of sex abuse, forcible touching, criminal sex act and acting in a manner injurious to a child. NYPD officers said in a statement that the 9-year-old girl told her grandmother earlier this month after she saw Lemon in the hallway. Lemon worked as a substitute paraprofessional at P.S. 59 and allegedly abused the student in the school’s basement in June.
He works with special needs students but the girl was not a student in his class. A Department of Education spokesperson released a statement prior to Lemon’s arrest on Saturday.
“These are deeply disturbing allegations and we immediately suspended this substitute paraprofessional without pay. He will remain suspended without pay pending the outcome of the investigation,”
His court appearance was scheduled for early Saturday in Kings County Court. Press play to learn more in the video below to share your thoughts on the situation.
