Police Arrest 16-Year-Old Boy In Shooting Death Of Teen Girl During Bronx Street Fight

New York Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy tied to the murder of a teenage girl shot to death during a Bronx street fight three months ago.

Julius Romero was arrested Saturday night and charged with murdering a 17-year-old girl, Vlana Roberts. The victim was swept up during a brawl on Vyse Ave. near 181st St. in West Farms. The suspect, Romero allegedly shot her in the upper back on June 2 during the brawl.

A friend of the 17-year-old girl Vlana Roberts drove her to St. Barnabas Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Police are still unclear if Vlana Roberts was the intended target during the Bronx brawl.

The police released a surveillance video three days after the attack of a ponytail-wearing suspect in a gray hoodie and black shorts. The suspect responsible for the shooting during the Bronx brawl, Romero has been charged with murder, manslaughter and weapons possession. He is currently awaiting arraignment in the Bronx Criminal Court Sunday.

Family and friends held a vigil outside Roberts’ home on Sunday night, just blocks from where she was killed.
A guidance counselor at Roberts’ school posted a quote on Facebook saying, “We mourn her passing, but we will rejoice in all the wonderful memories that she shared with us during her short life.”
