A Missouri police officer has been fired after an old photo resurfaced and showed him dressed as Flavor Flav in blackface.
According to the Daily Mail, Marcus Collins was fired from his job at the Missouri University Police Department after the racist photo was sent to the university. Allegedly, the photo was taken before Collins was hired as a police officer and he was hired for the position on January 2018. University officials approached Collins about the photo and Collin confirmed that it was him. He was fired later that Tuesday morning and spokesperson Christian Basi said during a press conference that it was in the university’s best interest to terminate Collins:
‘We felt he could no longer be an effective police officer. We do not want someone out there representing us at the same time engaging in this type of behavior. This is not something the University of Missouri will allow.’
Chancellor Alexander Cartwright said in a statement that Collin’s behavior is not tolerated on campus grounds.
“This type of behavior is not tolerated at Mizzou, and we understand how this impacts our entire community profoundly.”
