Police Report Gunfire At Several Locations Across Dutch City

On Monday morning, a shooting broke out in the Dutch city of Utrecht, leaving one dead and several injured. Local media quoted eyewitnesses saying shots had been fired on a tram. Police said they were investigating whether terrorism could have been motive behind this attack.

As of right now, trains and trams have stopped running and schools have been asked to keep their doors closed. The gunman is still at large. However, police have identified a person of interests: 37-year-old Turkish man named Gokman Tanis.

On top of this shooting, the head of the Dutch counter-terrorism agency revealed that more shootings have occurred in the city this morning.

“In Utrecht there was a shooting at several locations,” Pieter-Jaap Aalbersberg told a news conference. “A lot is still unclear at this point and local authorities are working hard to establish all the facts. What we already know is that a culprit is at large.”

Utrecht’s mayor has called the shooting “a horrible and radical incident” in a statement where he also assured residents that they are working hard to capture the shooter.
