Prince Estate Settles Legal Battle to Gain Control of Prince’s Website
Prince’s estate has finally settled a lengthy legal battle over the late singer’s website Prince.com. They will finally be able to have control of the entire site.
The Blast reports that court documents were filed mid January by the estate letting the court know that they have reached an agreement in the legal battle over the site. The document states that “is in the best interest of the estate and its beneficiaries.” In addition, they want the court to agree with the sentiment so that the case can be closed.
The estate initially sued Domain Capital after they claim that Domain reached out to them to let them know that they owned “the domain name www.prince.com pursuant to a lease-back financing agreement with an undisclosed third party.”
The estate added that Prince.com redirects to a blank page and “is thus not being used for a bona fide commercial use,” adding that Domain Capital “has never used the domain name www.prince.com in connection with a bona fide offering or any goods or services.”
The estate filed a lawsuit claiming unspecified damages and for the domain to be transferred over to them. It looks like they came out on top!
