Prince Philip ‘Voluntarily’ Gives Up Driving Following Car Crash
Prince Philip belives he does not need to be on the roads of England following his car crash last month and has decided to give up driving.
“After careful consideration The Duke of Edinburgh has taken the decision to voluntarily surrender his driving licence,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement to USA TODAY.
As we reported, Philip’s car flipped on its side, no one was seriously injured in the crash. He received no charges and continued to drive following the crash. A woman in the other vehicle had broken her wrist.
He blamed the bright sun that he says blinded him on the day of the crash.
“I can only imagine that I failed to see the car coming, and I am very contrite about the consequences,” he wrote in a previous apology letter.
There were also reports that Queen Elizabeth had “pleaded with him to stop driving on public roads,” however, that did not stop the Prince as Philip was seen driving in a new car a few days after the accident.
