Principal And Teachers Suspended After Posing For Pics With Noose
Four teachers and the principal have been suspended after a mass email was sent showing the educators in a picture posing with a noose.
Fox 11 reports that Linda Brandt, the principal of Summerwind Elementary School in Palmdale, California, allegedly sent out an email to all of her staff with the picture. The first-grade teachers can be seen smiling and laughing while pointing at the noose.
The Palmdale School District Superintendent Raul Maldonado told Yahoo Lifestyle that,
“Yesterday, it was brought to the Palmdale School District’s attention that an incident involving the discovery of a noose and possibly inappropriate responses to that discovery occurred at Summerwind Elementary School. The Principal and the personnel involved in this matter have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation of the matter. We will follow process and procedures to conduct the investigation.”
Parents have previously noted issues of racism within the school, adding that the staff is mostly white.
Shaka Phillipps, who was a former teacher said she was shocked to see the teachers come back to the school after the email, “They had the audacity to show up today. The integrity of the school is completely compromised. To the black community, a noose is a weapon, a symbol of slavery and lynching.”
An investigation is currently ongoing.
