Puerto Rico Governor Decrees State Of Emergency As Tropical Storm Dorian Strengthens
Governor Wanda Vázquez has issued a state of emergency as Tropical Storm Dorian is strengthening and expected to pass southwest Puerto Rico on Wednesday (August 28) afternoon and evening.
While a tropical storm warning and hurricane watch are in effect, Governor Vázquez ordered price freezes, effective immediately, and detailed emergency plans for public agencies.
Additionally, recalling the island’s latest, massive hurricane destruction in September 2017, Gov. Vázquez says, “Hurricane Maria served us as a lesson and almost two years after its devastating effects, today we can say that we are better prepared.” On Twitter, she added,“I urge citizens to activate their emergency plan with caution and peace of mind. For citizens who do not yet have safe roofs, we will have shelters ready.”
Furthermore, Dorian is expected to dump heavy rain over the islands of Martinique, St. Lucia, Barbados, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Grenade — all through Thursday (August 29).
