R. Kelly Fights Loss In Sexual Abuse Case, Claims He Was “Confused & Overwhelmed”
R. Kelly is fighting against his loss in the sexual abuse lawsuit against him, claiming that he was “confused and overwhelmed” and that’s why he failed to show up to multiple court dates.
TMZ reports that Kelly claims that he was so “overwhelmed” with his legal troubles that he had no idea what he was reading when he was served the papers while locked up for failing to pay his child support.
Heather Williams filer the suit against Kelly in Cook County, claiming he sexually abused her when she was 16.
R. Kelly’s lawyer Brian Nix reveals that Williams’ legal team managed to serve Kelly while he was in jail,
“R. Kelly was served while incarcerated on the child support case and he was overwhelmed by the experience of being in jail.” As we reported, when Kelly failed to appear for multiple court hearings, Williams won a default judgment against him.
“Being overwhelmed coupled with Mr. Kelly not being cognizant of what the motion fully meant led to him missing the hearing. I had no idea he had been served,” added Nix.
His lawyer is trying to get the default judgment waived so that they can fight it in court.
