R. Kelly Gets Second Chance In Sexual Abuse Lawsuit

As we previously reported, back in April, R. Kelly failed to show up to fight his sexual abuse case where he was accused of sexually abusing Heather Williams at age 16.

The singer’s lawyers argued that he was confused and overwhelmed when he got served with the court papers in jail and importantly, they said he’s illiterate, and didn’t know what he was reading.

His attorneys had filed a motion in Cook County asking a judge to throw out the default judgment and it looks like they have. The judge clearly understood R.Kelly’s reading disabilities and has vacated the default judgment. Now, he can fight the lawsuit on its merits.

Speaking with TMZ, Kelly’s attorneys, Zaid Abdallah and Raed Shalabi said, “We’ve never been part of a criminal case where an alleged victim has filed a civil case during a criminal proceeding.” However, they went on to say that the judge’s decision is a “big win for Mr. Kelly” but, there’s much more to battle in court.
