R. Kelly Misses Court After He ‘Refused Transport’ From Jail
The disgraced singer wasn’t in the mood to go to court today for his sex abuse case in Chicago.
According to NBC News, Kelly was scheduled to appear in a Cook County courtroom on Thursday, however, the Cook County Assistant State Attorney Jennifer Gonzalez said he “refused transport” from jail.
“The defendant was to be brought to court today. That was all worked out. The sheriffs were going to be bringing him over,” Gonzalez said. “As I understand it, he refused transport and so that is why the defendant is not before your honor today.”
Kelly’s lawyer, Steve Greenberg, said the allegations that Kelly refused transport were “not 100-percent true,” however, he failed to elaborate.
“I don’t want to discuss matters that I discussed with the U.S. Marshals Service in open court,” Greenberg added. “Suffice it to say, the Marshal Service says that moving Mr. Kelly is a large undertaking.”
A judge emphasized that Kelly would have to make an appearance for his next hearing on September 17.
