R. Kelly’s Lawyer Speaks Out, Says Singer Was Arrested While Walking His Dog
As previously covered last night, singer R. Kelly was arrested in Chicago Thursday on federal child pornography and obstruction of justice charges.
The U.S. attorney’s office in Chicago said the pop star was handed down a 13 count indictment in the Northern District of Illinois by a federal grand jury. The R&B singer has been charged with child pornography, enticement of a child and obstruction of justice. In addition to that, Kelly also faces racketeering charges as apart of a separate five-count indictment out of the Eastern District of New York.
Steve Greenberg, Kelly’s attorney, said on Friday that the singer was arrested while walking his dog. Greenberg also said the alleged conduct charges,
“appears to largely be the same as the conduct previously alleged against Mr. Kelly in his current State indictment and his former State charges that he was acquitted of. Most, in not all of the conduct alleged, is decades old.” He added that “ Mr. Kelly was aware of the investigations and the charges were not a surprise.”
He is expected to face charges in Chicago before being extradited to Brooklyn, Variety reports. It was also mentioned that federal agents were conducting a search in the singer’s residence in Trump Tower in Chicago, ABC News reports.
This latest arrest comes just months after he was released on bail for other sexual abuse charges. We will continue to keep you updated on this story.
