New rapper Cupcakke was trending on Twitter last night, not because of her music but because she became the topic of discussion after sharing a cryptic tweet.
The 21-year-old Chicago-based rapper, whose birth name is Elizabeth Harris, wrote on Twitter that she was about to die by suicide. She tweeted,
“I’m about to commit suicide”
Fans and friends, including Charli XCX and Iggy Azalea sprung into action after the tweet. They wanted to remind her that she is loved and suicide is not the way to go out.
“Cupcakke please read this,” Charli wrote. “You have taught me and so many others so much about being ourselves, embracing exactly who we are and being proud of where we come from.”
“I understand how hopeless and overwhelmed with negativity we can sometimes feel,” wrote Azalea, whose was going to have Cupcakke open her tour last year. “I hope you’ll take some time with those that really know YOU best; then when you’re ready to come back stronger than ever!”
According to the latest reports, Cupcakke is safe. Chicago Police Department told BBC that officers went out a few times to check on Elizabeth and eventually got ahold of her. They took her to the hospital – “not for her injuries – but for a mental evaluation.”
A rep from her team has not commented on the latest situation. We will continue to keep you updated on this story.
