A Utah real estate agent was allegedly shot dead by tenants he tried to evict.
According to the Salt Lake Tribune, David Stokoe let his renters know they needed to be moved out by 6 p.m. and headed to the Salt Lake City home Thursday around that time. His body was found inside a crawl space in the apartment the next day.
Manuel Velasquez, one of the tenants, told cops he got into a fight with the dad of four that evening because Stokoe kicked the door down and put him in a “very serious” chokehold. The 31-year-old explained to cops that while he was being subdued, he grabbed a handgun inside his fanny pack and shot the landlord multiple times. Shortly after, Jessica Miller and Diana Hernandez allegedly cleaned the apartment and hid Stokoe’s body.
Stokoe’s mother, Diane, and his half-brother Dean Belov are not believing their story because they say their loved one would never instigate a fight. Stokoe’s family said that “their hearts are broken over the loss” in a statement released Saturday and set up a GoFundMe page to help his widow, Nikki, and their four young children.
“This situation is tragic beyond words, but we are remembering Dave the way he deserves to be remembered, as a hero and champion.”
