Really? Social Media Is Blaming Beyoncé For Beto O’Rourke’s Loss To Ted Cruz

For some reason, people are blaming Beyoncé for Texas Democrat Beto O’Rourke’s loss to Sen. Ted Cruz.

Many claimed that the singer waited until the last minute to encourage her fans to get out and vote for O’Rourke. Beyoncé shared a picture on her Instagram page rocking an all-black outfit while wearing a matching “Beto for Senate” cap, just hours before the big election. She captioned her post:

“We can’t voice our frustrations and complain about what’s wrong without voting and exercising our power to make it right,” she wrote to her 119 million followers. “We need you.”

A few fans think that she made a poor move and took to Twitter to call her out. One user wrote,

“You have such a huge, influential voice and you wait until Election Day to post this?!” one angry fan wrote. “Beto needed you sooner. Maybe you could’ve actually made a difference.” Page Six quotes.

Another fan said,

“You came out literally two hours before elections were over. Why didn’t you use your influence months ago.” Someone else added, “I blame Beyonce for this! Homegirl couldn’t tweet a day earlier??? #seriously #fixitjesus.”

O’Rourke was eventually beat out by Republican Cruz in the closely watched race. Cruz scored 50.9% of the vote compared to O’Rourke’s 48.3%.

Now, we all know that everything helps for candidates including a little tweet or post from public figures. But, it is still not 100% certain that Beyoncé could have made that big of a difference in the race. Some people seemed to have to get that and immediately came to her defense.

“White people please stop blaming Beyoncé and check in with your racist friends and relative,” one user wrote.

Another said,

“Why should someone need a celebrity to tell them to vote or to motivate them to vote in the first place. Shouldn’t not wanting the White Supremacists, KKK, Nazi supported Republican party to run the country be enough motive to vote. Blaming Beyonce for Beto losing Texas?”
