McGowan’s attorney, Jim Hundley says “The Scream” star plans to plead no contest to a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance on Jan. 15. Under the deal, McGowan will avoid jail time and pay a fine.

“The Commonwealth and Ms. McGowan have reached a plea agreement in her case. The Commonwealth has agreed to reduce the current felony charge to a misdemeanor of possession of a controlled substance. Ms. McGowan will enter a plea of no contest to the reduced charge when she appears in court on January 15, and the Commonwealth will recommend a sentence that requires Ms. McGowan to pay a fine,” Jim Hundley said to The Blast.

As we reported, McGowan was arrested on November 14, 2017, after cocaine was found in a wallet she left on a Dulles International Airport-bound plane. She was later released on bond. McGowan maintained her innocence, claiming the drugs were actually planted by Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced film producer who she also accused of sexual abuse.

McGowan’s attorney continued explaining,

“Ms. McGowan has accepted this agreement in order to spare her family, her friends, and her supporters the emotional strain of a criminal trial. The agreement brings this ordeal to an end and allows her to focus all of her energy on what matters most to her – creating a better world. Ms. McGowan will comment on the day of the plea.”
