Hip hop mogul Russell Simmons is reportedly demanding $35,000 from one of his rape accusers!
The Def Jam co-founder wants one of the women who accused him of rape to pay him $35,000 for filing a “baseless” lawsuit against him, The Blast reports. On August 6, Simmons filed legal docs against the Jane Doe who accused him of rape in 1988. The woman claimed the rape went down after she attended a Def Jam concert with her son.
Simmons is demanding $35,000 and is accusing the woman of filing her complaint only for “purposes of publicity, which this case has garnered.”
The music mogul was offended after the woman claimed Simmons’ attorney also represented Bill Cosby and Harvey Weinstein. Simmons denies these claims and says his lawyer never represented Cosby and has not defended Weinstein in any case involving sexual misconduct.
Simmons says Jane Doe’s lawyer has a “relevant pattern of misconduct,” and referenced a past sanction in another case involving $250k.
The father of two daughters called the allegations in Jane Doe’s lawsuit “outrageous and fictional” and says it was only filed “to extort a settlement” out of him and for her attorney to gain publicity.
Simmons is demanding Jane Doe and her lawyer be sanctioned in the amount of $34,376 for legal fees and costs he accrued while opposing “this baseless and improper” claim.
Jane Doe claimed in her lawsuit that she took her child to a hip-hop concert in 1988 and Simmons approached her and invited them backstage. She claimed he invited her to an afterparty at a nearby hotel which she went to after dropping off her son.
However, once inside his hotel room, the woman claims he closed the door and said, “I’m going to f*** you.” When she denied his advances, she claims he told her, “I am going to f*** you or I’m going to f*** your son. You decide.”
The lawsuit claims that Simmons then threw her on the bed and raped her. Jane Doe is seeking $10 million in damages.
Russell Simmons has remained adamant that the woman’s story is false and added that the statute of limitations had already passed and demanded the case be thrown out, The Blast reports.
