San Francisco Cop Shoots Unarmed Suspect After Being On The Job For Only 4 Days
Last week, a rookie San Francisco police officer fatally shot an unarmed carjacking suspect in the city’s Bayview neighborhood. Police have just released the bodycam footage which shows the intense, shocking moments.
Police Chief Bill Scott released body camera video and street surveillance footage that shows Keita O’Neil, 42, jumping out of a stolen minivan and running along a patrol car as the officer fires at O’Neil.
Scott said the officer who fired the single fatal shot from the passenger seat of their patrol car was riding with a training officer on his fourth day of duty. Police have decided not to release the officer’s name.
O’Neil was suspected of assaulting a California Lottery employee and stealing a van that belongs to the agency. Police chased the van along with another SUV that was spotted in an area of public housing where O’Neil was shot, officials said. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died from his wounds.
Four men who were traveling in the SUV were arrested but have since been released and without charges, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
