Second Parkland Shooting Survivor To Take His Own Life Is Identified
Recently we reported that a second student from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School took his own life just a week after 19-year-old Sydney Aiello passed away. He has now been identified as 16-year-old Calvin Desir.
The sophomore at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School who died in ‘an apparent suicide’ on Saturday night was named by family members after they had set up a GoFundMe page to cover his funeral fees.
Friends and family of Calvin describe him as a loving teen with hopes of one day becoming an engineer.
News of his death came less than a week after his classmate, 19-year-old Sydney Aiello, took her own life. Both students reportedly died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Calvin and Sydney were both on campus on February 14, 2018, when Nikolas Cruz shot dead 14 of their fellow classmates and three faculty members. Sydney was reported to have been suffering from post-traumatic stress and survivors guilt.
Broward County Superintendent Robert Runcie tweeted on Sunday after meeting with Calvin’s family, ‘After visiting with the his wonderful family today, I got a sense of what a great young man he was. Please hold up this family in your prayers.’
