Simone Biles is literally all around the greatest gymnast in the world as she breaks a world record during the world gymnastics championships!
Gymnast Simone Biles is proving that she is literally one of the world’s greatest as she broke a world record during the World Gymnastics Championships!
On Tuesday, team USA which included Biles won the women’s team all-around title. With this win, Biles took home her 21st medal beating out Russian gymnast Svetlana Khorkina for the most medals overall by a woman at the world championships. This also marks Biles’ 15th career gold.
Biles is now two short of Vitaly Scherbo’s all-time record of 23 among men or women.
Landing moves that no one else in the world can land is showing fans that Biles is truly ready for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo!
“Every year it feels better and better just because we’re adding to the legacy,” Biles said. “I feel like I never think of records. I just go out there and do what I came to do, which is competing for the country.
Team USA beat out the second-place country Russia by 5.801 making this win the seventh consecutive team title at an Olympics or world championships.
Although team USA suffered a fall for Sunisa Lee on balance beam and a fumbled routine from Grace McCallum on the uneven bars, the team still maintained their first-place standing.
“It’s just so surreal to come out here and end up on top with the strength of the team that we have, even after having a couple falls out there,” Biles said.
Russia is the first team to come within six points of the U.S. since China at the 2015 world championships. As for China, they missed the podium for the first time since 2004 as they came in 4th place right behind Italy who after 69 years landed on the podium with a bronze medal.
