Stalker Tracks Down Japanese Pop Star Using Her Selfies And Assaults Her

A Tokyo man was arrested Tuesday after he tracked down a pop star by using her selfies and Google Street View to assault her.

According to CBS News, 26-year-old Hibiki Sato was arrested and charged with an injury caused by forcible indecency after he tracked down a pop star by using a combination of her selfies and Google Street View. During the police interview, Sato described how he thoroughly looked at small details in the victim’s photos by looking at the scenery reflected in her eyes. He also tracked the train station she frequently commuted from and located her.

Police reported the attack happened before midnight on September 1 when Sato allegedly attacked then molested the woman after he followed her into her apartment building.

An investigator warned social media users to be aware of their photos and videos being used a tool for stalkers.

“People should be fully aware that posting pictures and video on social media runs the risk of divulging personal data,”
